Week 2A: Overview of Social Media

Image result for social media business vs personal

I like to think that all social media can be used for both personal and business. It all comes down to how you use it and the content in which you post about.

If I were to chose one social media platform that would be more for personal use it would be Facebook. There are so many users on Facebook that families and friends have begun to rely on this social media outlet for sending party invitations, keeping family updated on kids activities or personal health issues, sharing new baby pictures and or even a recipes that mom would love! Because of the amount of users connecting on Facebook I believe this would be most geared towards personal use.

Facebook is also a great tool for small businesses. The ability to use your profile as a business tool has become very popular. It gives small businesses the chance to receive and post customer reviews and give some background information on the business.

Instagram has become a go-to tool for businesses sharing photos and videos of their products and services. There is no better way to promote your product or service then to show the customers exactly what you are doing and what they are getting. You can post adds and promotions right on your feed so that followers keep up to date on your newest sales or discounts.

Both Facebook and Instagram have options to turn your posts in to usable advertisement which is a great way to reach new clients on social media. Instagram would be perfect for advertising photos showing happy customers using your product. Facebook would be good for sharing a current review from a satisfied customer or turning an informative post about your business into advertising reaching hundreds or even thousands of consumers.

  1. Very interesting thoughts on this week's assignment. When completing my assignment, I basically came up with the exact opposite conclusions. The key is the part of your opener where you said "It all comes down to how you use it and the content in which you post about". I would add that it is not only on what you post about, but it is also who you follow. I personally follow personal accounts on Instagram and business accounts on Facebook.

  2. Our posts are very similar! I agree with Facebook and Instagram being a main platform for businesses. I see posts on Facebook and Instagram constantly either paid, or people I know promoting businesses. The connection through Instagram and Facebook seem personal due to familiar faces or from personally choosing who we follow.

  3. Hi Christina!

I like that you started by touching on the fact that it depends on how exactly you choose to use a site. I think that is the most distinguishing matter. It depends a lot on who you have as a "follower" or "friend" on sites like Instagram and Facebook. Some people choose to have personal and business accounts as a way to keep their personal and business social media lives separate. I think that's a very important tactic.
